2. Make Together — Lace Up! Safety Up! (Student Book pg 22)

  • The craft involves decorating a paper sneaker and learning how to thread and tie real shoelaces to promote safety and fine motor skills.
  • The teacher introduces the craft and demonstrates each step, doing it together with the students and providing help where necessary.
  • a) Guide students to detach the sneaker template from the design sheet.
  • b) Encourage students to use colouring tools to decorate their sneakers beautifully.
  • c) Help students insert the side flaps into the designated slits on the sneaker base and secure them with glue or tape.
  • d) Demonstrate how to apply glue to the bottom plate and attach the decorated sneaker on top.
  • e) Show students how to thread the laces through the holes and tie them securely so the “shoes” don’t come loose.
  • While tying the laces, the teacher emphasizes safety: “Always tie your shoelaces tightly so you don’t trip and fall!”
