2. Story Review and Skills
W1 P3Story Review
Lesson Goals
- To review the target vocabulary
- To review the story
- To help students notice and talk about colors
Students will be able to
- Identify and say color words while reviewing the story
- Match colors to story objects using stickers and cards
- Answer simple questions about colors in the story
1. Warm-Up
Hello Song · “How are you?” · “How’s the weather today?” · Day of the week check
2. Story Review (Student Book pg 10-19)
- Guide the review by pointing to key story scenes in the Gamcheon Culture Village and asking students to name the colors they see in each picture. Model the target language first, then invite students to respond together or individually.
- “What color is the ball now?” “What color do you see on the sun?” “Is the crab Blue?” “Is this Pink?” “Are the colors playing with a ball?”
3. Activity 1 (Story) — Save the Painting
- Objective: students identify color names and match them to the objects by sticking stickers on the mural.
- Materials: a large white mural sheet (with a ball, crab, sun, fish and hat, all uncolored), color dot stickers (red, blue, yellow, green, pink).
- a) Introduce the mural. “Oh no! The colors are gone! Let’s find the colors and save the painting together.”
- b) Give each child many stickers in all 5 colors.
- c) Point to a white object on the mural. “Oh, the ball has no color! What color do we need?” (red!) Students find their red stickers and stick them on the ball.
- d) Repeat the process for blue (crab), yellow (sun), pink (fish) and green (hat). “Look! The painting is colorful again. Great job, everyone!”
- Teacher Tip: playing upbeat background music during the sticking activity makes the atmosphere much more exciting.
4. Activity 2 (Story) — What color is missing?
- Objective: students identify which colored object is missing.
- Materials: colored story cards.
- a) Show the colored cards and name the colors together.
- b) Have students close their eyes. “Everyone, close your eyes! The colors are trying to hide!”
- c) Hide one colored card (e.g. the red ball).
- d) Guide the students to check the remaining cards and ask “Open your eyes! Oh no! One color is gone! What color is missing?”
- e) Reveal the answer. When the children shout “Red!”, bring it back and say “Yay! We found the red!”
5. Wrap-up
- Review target words with the [Let’s Chant] song, then finish the class with the Goodbye song.
W1 P4Workbook (Story) + Story Book (Skills)
Lesson Goals
- To reinforce the color words
- To introduce and practice numbers 9 and 10
Students will be able to
- Read simple color sentences and match them to the correct objects in the story
- Count specific colored characters and identify 9 and 10
1. Warm-Up
Hello Song · “How are you?” · “How’s the weather today?” · Day of the week check
2. Workbook pg. 6-7 — Story
- Guide the students to read the color sentences and trace the dotted lines to the objects in the mural to bring the colors back.
- “The sun is yellow. Let’s trace the line to the sun!” “Follow the line to the ball.” “Look! Blue is going back to the crab.”
3. Skills — Numbers: 9, 10 (Student Book pg 20)
- Have students count the specific colored characters and circle the correct number (9, 10).
- a) Have the students look at the group of characters in the box together.
- b) Ask the students to find the character color shown next to the question mark. “Look at Tigo! Wait, what colors are the Tigos?” “Yes! Yellow, green.” “Which color Tigos should we find?”
- c) Guide the students to count only those specific characters out loud. “Let’s count the yellow Tigos together.”
- d) Instruct the students to find and circle the correct number on the right. “How many Tigos? Nine! Circle number nine!”
4. Activity (Numbers: 9, 10) — 9 & 10 Color Catch
- Objective: students categorize and count objects by color, repeating the process with different colors to reinforce numbers 9 and 10.
- Materials: two hula hoops.
- a) Divide the class into 2 teams.
- b) Instruct students to find 9 or 10 objects of a specific color and place them in their hoop. “Everyone, look around! We need to find 9 yellow things in our room! Go!”
- c) The first team to fill their hoop with the correct number wins. Count together to declare the winner. “Let’s count! 1, 2… 9! We have 9 yellow things!”
- d) Continue the game by changing the target colors. “Next round! Now find 10 green things! Ready, set, go!”
- Teacher Tip: if you are concerned about safety or students moving too fast, instruct them to place their workbooks on their heads.
