Come Back, Colors!

2. Make Together — Rainbow Heart (Student Book pg 22)

• The craft is exploring and naming various colors by assembling the 9 colorful pieces of the heart puzzle. Introduce the craft and how to do it, do it together with the students and help them if necessary.
• a) Distribute the heart puzzle sets and have students take out all the pieces.
• b) Hold up each piece one by one and have students shout out the color: “It’s red!” “It’s blue!”
• c) Guide students to assemble the basic heart shape in the case, matching the colored pieces to complete the rainbow heart. “Look at the heart. What colors do you see?”
• d) Once the heart is complete, have students take it apart and choose a new object (e.g. whale, helicopter) from the guidebook to build.
• e) Lead students to point to their final creation and practice the color words.
• ** This craft may change if materials are not available for purchase.

3. Show and tell

• Have a show and tell where students introduce their craft to their friends. Focus on simple phrases. Be sure to congratulate them afterwards and get the other students to applaud so that they don’t feel nervous showing their craft.

4. Wrap-up

• Review target words with the [Let’s Chant] song, then finish the class with the Goodbye song.

2. Storybook Review (Student Book pg 23)

• a) Introduce the sticker board and show the stickers.
• b) Guide students to place the correct sticker in each box.
• c) After placing each sticker, students say the word aloud: red, yellow, blue, green, red.

3. Workbook pg 10 — Review

• Review page: trace the line and say the name of the animal or object and what color it is.

4. Workbook pg 11 — Review

• a) Have students read the color words written under each character (green, yellow, red, blue, pink).
• b) Instruct students to color the shirts of the characters and the person according to the designated color word.
• c) For the last image (“you”), students color the shirt in their favorite color or the color they are wearing.
• d) Practice colors. “What color t-shirt is Tigo wearing?” “What color t-shirt are you wearing?”

5. Activity 1 (Vocabulary) — Shake! Shake the colors!

• Objective: students shake off 5 different colored Post-its from their bodies to the [Let’s Chant] song and collect one of each color.
• Materials: 5 colors of Post-its — red, blue, yellow, pink, green.
• a) Stick 5 different colored Post-its on each student’s clothes (arms, legs, back).
• b) Play the [Let’s Chant] music. Students must shake their bodies to drop all 5 Post-its without using their hands.
• c) Stop the music if students find and pick up exactly one of each color (red, blue, yellow, pink, green) from the floor.
• d) The first student to collect all 5 target colors wins.
• Teacher Tip: if the students find it easy, increase the number of colors to the 7 of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet).

6. Activity 2 (Vocabulary) — Rainbow Race

• Objective: students jump like frogs over colored cards in the correct rainbow order while shouting the color words.
• Materials: 7 colored cards (red to violet).
• a) Warm-up: show the video and follow the dance to learn the 7 rainbow colors — “Rainbow Disco Unicorn Dance”.
• b) Divide the class into 2 teams.
• c) Place 7 colored cards on the floor in a line with enough space between them. Create two lines for two teams. Have students line up in pairs at the back of the room.
• d) The first student from each team starts at the back of the room in a squatting frog position and jumps over each card, shouting “Red!” on the first card, “Orange!” on the second, and so on.
• e) They continue leaping over each card in the correct rainbow order until they reach the whiteboard. Once they touch the board, they run back and high-five the next frog to start. The first team to finish wins.

7. Wrap-up

• Review target words with the [Let’s Chant] song, then finish the class with the Goodbye song.
