2. Introduce Characters (Student Book pg 4-5)

• Transition: “Today we are going to the beach. Let’s learn how to play safely!”
• a) Introduce Boogie: Say, “This is Boogie,” and have students repeat the name. Ask about Tigo: show Tigo and ask, “What animal is Tigo?” Provide hints if needed. Introducing Otto: say, “Do you know Otto the otter?” Then clarify, “Otto is an otter,” and have students repeat.
• Review: Point to each character and ask, “Who is this?” Encourage students to say their names.
• b) Briefly read about the characters. Ask: “Who likes to surf?” “Who is a food YouTuber?” “What is Tigo searching for?”

3. Introduce the story and theme (Student Book pg.7)

• a) Show them the picture and ask: “Who is this character?” “Where are they now?” “What are they doing?” “Do you like the beach?” “What do you want to do at the beach?” “Is it safe to jump in right away?” “What is happening to Boogi?”
• Focus students on the idea: Wait → Check → Play Safely

4. Introduction to vocabulary (Student Book pg.8)

• b) Physical Demonstration. jump → jump lightly. swim → swimming arms. surf → surfing pose. dive → diving motion. warm up → stretching. rest → sit and breathe. safe → thumbs up.
• c) Contextual Repetition. “Boogi must be safe when swimming.” “Hoggy likes to surf at the beach.” “Jindo is ready to swim after warming up.” Have students repeat each sentence.
• d) Personal Connection. “Do you like to surf?” “Do you go swimming?” “Do you warm up?”
• e) Interactive Practice. Have the class repeat the word several times together. Ask students to practice saying the word to a partner.

5. Introducing the Chant (Student Book pg. 9)

• “Now, we’re going to sing a song about safety! Listen carefully!”
• Play the Chant once. Pause after each sentence and have students repeat the words. This song teaches us how to be safe.
• Play the Chant again for fun! You can sing the song faster or slower so that students can have fun!

1. Student Book pg 8 — vocabulary review

• Review target vocabulary through actions and explanations. Get students to circle the word that you say.

2. Story Time

• a) Character Introduction. Before opening the book: “Today, we’re going to read a fun story about Swimming! Let’s meet the characters!” Introduce each main character (Jindo, Boogi, Roo, Otto, Hoggy, Tigo). Ask: “What’s this character’s name?” “What is their favorite place?”
• b) Picture Walk. Open to page 10. Before reading the text, focus on the illustrations. Go through each page (10-19), one at a time. “What do you see in this picture?” “Where are they?” “What is Roo doing? Is he ready?” (pg 12-13) “They are at the beach, do you like the beach?” (pg 18-19)
• Reinforce vocabulary — pg 12-13: “Roo wants to jump in, what should he do first?” (Guide students to say “Warm up”.)
• pg 14-15: “Jindo wants to swim far, what should he do first?” (Guide students to say “Check the flags”.)
• pg 16-17: “Boogi wants to surf, what should Boogi do first?” (Guide students to say “Check the sky”.)
• pg 18-19: “Hoggi wants to dive, what should Hoggi do first?” (Guide students to say “Check the sea”.)
• Allow them to engage as a whole so they don’t feel pressured to speak.

3. Interactive Reading — Student Book

• Read the story aloud, one page at a time. Read slowly and clearly. Pause after each sentence or short phrase.
• “Do you surf like Boogi?” “Have you been to this beach in Busan?”
• Ask simple comprehension questions: “Why did Roo wait?” “What is Jindo doing?” “What is Hoggy doing?”

• Use the stickers to review the vocabulary.

5. Wrap-up

• Finish the class with the Goodbye song.
