Lesson Goals

Students will be able to
- Participate in a fun and interactive storytelling session based on the story
- Engage with and lead the discussion during class
1. Warm-Up
Hello Song · “How are you?” · “How’s the weather today?” · Day of the week check
2. Story Review (Student Book pg 10-21)
- a) Reinforce the vocabulary on each page: “Roo got a gift. Do you think she is happy?”
- b) After going through the story and explaining the target vocabulary, read and repeat the story with the students, focusing on any words they might have difficulty with. “What emotion does Otto feel?”
- c) Relate the story to the students as you go along. “What makes you happy?” “When do you feel shy?”
3. Activity 1 (Story) — Pass & Read
- a) Give a ball or a toy to one student.
- b) Students pass the object to each other.
- c) When the music stops (or when the teacher says “Stop”), the student holding the object reads one sentence. If the student makes a mistake, help and read together. Continue until everyone has a turn.
4. Activity 2 (Vocabulary) — Animal/emotion activity
- a) Explain the basic rules. Give the students a word and they act it out without talking; the other students raise their hand and guess the word. Demonstrate a couple of examples to ensure they understand.
- b) Incorporate animals and emotions into the vocabulary you give the student to act out.
- c) Use props like animal/emotion word flashcards to make it more visual. Show them the flashcard of “happy” and they should make a happy face.
- d) Toward the end, challenge them with new words or silly words outside the story like dinosaur, capybara or joy.
5. Wrap-up
- Review target words with the Let’s Chant song, then finish the class with the Goodbye song.

2. Workbook pg 6-7 — Story
- Demonstrate how to fold the page to transform the characters into animals based on their funny tails. “Look! When we fold the paper, Roo disappears and a monkey appears!”
- Guide students to read and repeat the completed sentence: “I am happy like a monkey.”
3. Skills — Shapes: Triangle (Student Book pg 22)
- Introduce a new shape. a) Circle each triangle you see in the zoo picture.
- Ask students questions about the shape: “What things are triangle shaped?”
4. Activity (Shapes) — The Magic Triangle Gate
- Objective: students will recognize the triangle shape through teamwork and physical movement.
- a) The teacher selects two students to be the Gate Keepers.
- b) The Gate Keepers face each other and join their hands high above their heads, creating a large triangle shape with their arms and the floor.
- c) The rest of the students form a line and pass under the Triangle Gate while singing a song or the [Let’s Chant] song.
- d) The teacher suddenly shouts, “Triangle Stop!” and the Gate Keepers lower their arms to catch a student. The student who is caught must say “Now, I am a triangle!” to be released.
- e) Repeat the game, allowing different students to become the Gate Keepers.
5. Wrap-up
- Review target words with the [Let’s Chant] song, then finish the class with the Goodbye song.
