4. Make Together and Review

W2 P3Student Book (Make Together)

Lesson Goals

  • To promote safety awareness through a hands-on craft
  • To develop fine motor skill
  • To encourage confidence in sharing work with classmates

Students will be able to

  • Decorate and assemble a paper sneaker with guidance
  • Thread and tie shoelaces with teacher support

1. Warm-Up

Hello Song · “How are you?” · “How’s the weather today?” · Day of the week check

2. Make Together — Lace Up! Safety Up! (Student Book pg 22)

  • The craft involves decorating a paper sneaker and learning how to thread and tie real shoelaces to promote safety and fine motor skills.
  • The teacher introduces the craft and demonstrates each step, doing it together with the students and providing help where necessary.
  • a) Guide students to detach the sneaker template from the design sheet.
  • b) Encourage students to use colouring tools to decorate their sneakers beautifully.
  • c) Help students insert the side flaps into the designated slits on the sneaker base and secure them with glue or tape.
  • d) Demonstrate how to apply glue to the bottom plate and attach the decorated sneaker on top.
  • e) Show students how to thread the laces through the holes and tie them securely so the “shoes” don’t come loose.
  • While tying the laces, the teacher emphasizes safety: “Always tie your shoelaces tightly so you don’t trip and fall!”
  • This craft may change if materials are not available for purchase.

3. Show and tell

  • Have a show and tell where students can introduce their craft to their friends. Focus on simple phrases. Be sure to congratulate them afterwards and get the other students to applaud so that they don’t feel nervous showing their craft.
W2 P4Review — Student Book + Workbook

Lesson Goals

  • To review and reinforce key safety expressions
  • To strengthen listening, speaking and phonics skills

Students will be able to

  • Respond correctly to review questions from workbook
  • Identify safe and unsafe actions by observing pictures and explaining what should be said
  • Recognize and sort words with initial sounds /f/ and /w/

1. Warm-Up

Hello Song · “How are you?” · “How’s the weather today?” · Day of the week check

2. Storybook Review (Student Book pg 25)

  • The guide prints “pg 25”; the book puts Review on page 23.
  • a) The teacher introduces the sticker board and shows the stickers.
  • b) Guide students to place the correct sticker in each box.
  • c) After placing each sticker, students say the safety expressions aloud: Watch out, walk slow, slow down, get down.

3. Workbook pg 10 — Review

  • Have a look at the picture and find the differences. Ask: “What character is on the bicycle?” “What should this person be saying?”
  • Answers: Vehicle — bicycle vs. kickboard. Spelling — “Watch out!” vs. “Vatch out!”. Stripes — 4 stripes vs. 3 stripes on the utility pole.

4. Workbook pg 11 — Review

  • Trace along the dotted line and get the students to say “Slow down!” Ask: “Who is running?” “Is this safe?” “What should they be doing?”

5. Activity 1 (Vocabulary) — Quick action switch

  • Objective: Students reinforce their understanding of safety by practicing “Slow down,” “Be careful,” “Stop,” “Walk slow,” and “Watch out!”
  • Materials: flashcards or pictures showing different actions (running, climbing, cycling, falling, walking); optional traffic light cards.
  • a) Review first: hold up each picture and ask, “What’s happening?” or “What should they say?” Elicit “Slow down!” or “Be careful!”
  • b) Students hear a phrase or see a picture and must quickly do the correct action or say the right safety phrase. Teacher says “Running fast!” → Students: “Slow down!” Teacher shows a picture of someone climbing → Students: “Get down!”
  • c) Add movement: call “Switch!” and change the command or picture quickly.
  • Variation — colour signals: Red = stop (freeze). Yellow = say the phrase slowly. Green = say it fast and loud.

6. Activity 2 (Phonics) — Sound Snap

  • Objective: Students reinforce /f/ and /w/ sounds (family, fan, fish, wet, wind, watermelon).
  • Materials: picture or word cards for each target word; two baskets or boxes labelled “F” and “W”.
  • a) Review sounds: “/f/ — teeth on lip, blow air.” “/w/ — lips round, blow out air.” Have students repeat several times.
  • b) Show a card (e.g., fish). Students call out the first sound and decide: “F or W?” They then ‘snap’ the card into the correct basket.
  • c) Make it active: put cards on the floor and call out a word. Two students race to pick up the correct card and place it in the right basket.
  • Teacher Tip: Have students create short sentences with the word: “Fish can swim.” / “Wind is cold.”

7. Wrap-up

  • Review target words with the [Let’s Chant] song, then finish the class with the Goodbye song.
